Extention of leukoaraiosis.
The degree of hypodensity of the white matter was quantified separately in the frontal, parietal, and occipital regions.
A score of:

“0” indicated no hypodensity;

“1” questionable hypodensity (might be regarded as “normal for age”);

“2” definite hypodensity but confined to the periventricular area or not reaching the cortex;

“3” marked hypodensity reaching the cortex or extending into the white matter of the gyral digitations.

The total score ranged from 0 to 18.
